INNOCENCE

open to the sun
hiding from no one
the truth lay bare in front of everyone
but sheltered somehow, so as not to burn
shared purely so we all can learn
of the innocence for which we all yearn
with no need to hide
you free the soul inside
changing minds and the rolling tide
your safety is not in a shield
or mighty weapons that you can wield
but in the power of unity, as we stand in the one field
in the power of needing to protect no more
in revealing the ocean from the edge of the shore
in the defenselessness of a wide open door
in the defenselessness of a wide open door
open to the sun
hiding from no one
the deepest truth pays witness to you ... and to everyone
